Terms of service.

Welcome to JSH Proofreading and Editing Services. By submitting a project for editing, proofreading, or beta reading, you agree to the following terms. These terms are in place to ensure a clear, professional, and respectful working relationship for both parties.

1. Services Offered

JSH Proofreading and Editing Services provides a range of author support services, including:

  • Developmental Editing

  • Line Editing

  • Copy Editing

  • Proofreading

  • Beta Reading

  • Custom Editing Packages

Each service is tailored to the author’s specific needs. If you are unsure which service best fits your project, we are happy to assist you in selecting the appropriate level of editing prior to invoicing.

2. Payments and Rates

All pricing is based on the service selected and total word count. Rates are listed on our website and are subject to change based on project scope, depth of editing, and timeline.

We currently accept payment via Venmo only. Payment instructions will be provided upon acceptance of your project.

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before editing work begins. The remaining 50% is due upon completion and must be paid in full prior to the delivery of final edited files. Beta reading services may require full payment upfront.

Failure to submit final payment may result in withholding of all completed work until the balance is paid in full.

3. Turnaround Time

Turnaround times vary depending on the type of service, word count, and overall project complexity. Estimated timelines will be discussed prior to the start of any project. Rush services may be available for an additional fee.

If unexpected delays occur, the client will be notified as early as possible with a revised completion estimate.

4. Client Responsibilities

By submitting a manuscript, the client confirms that:

  • They are the original author or have legal permission to submit the work.

  • The manuscript is not plagiarized or AI-generated without disclosure.

  • The file is submitted in an editable format (Microsoft Word or Google Docs preferred).

  • They will respond to communication in a timely manner throughout the editing process.

Failure to meet these responsibilities may delay the project and/or result in termination of the service.

5. Revisions and Edits

One round of minor revisions or clarifications is included within 7 business days of project completion. Major revisions or requests outside the scope of the original agreement may require a new quote and timeline.

6. Confidentiality

All submitted materials are treated with full confidentiality. Your manuscript will never be shared, distributed, or used in any way outside of the editing agreement without your written permission. Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) can be signed upon request.

7. Rights and Ownership

All rights to the manuscript remain solely with the author. JSH Proofreading and Editing Services does not claim any ownership or publishing rights to your work.

8. Testimonials and Portfolio Use

With your permission, we may reference your project (title and/or author name) in our portfolio or website as a professional credit. You are under no obligation to approve testimonial use.

9. Disclaimer

While we provide professional feedback and editing services to improve the clarity and quality of your work, we do not guarantee publishing deals, sales performance, or commercial success. All feedback is subjective and offered to help support your goals as an author.

10. Agreement

By hiring JSH Proofreading and Editing Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to all of the terms listed above.
